Braun Series 7 vs 8 vs 9: Which One to Buy, and What Owners Say About the Old Ones
Including the Series 9 Pro most owners pick, the PRO+ that costs $90 more, the Series 8 at $230, and the two different shavers Amazon sells as a Series 7.
Updated: 25 October 2026 · Listings inspected 24 October 2026
Short answer
Buy the Series 9 Pro 9465cc: 2,623 ratings at 4.4 stars on 24 October 2026 and $259.99. The PRO+ doesn’t earn its extra $90 on buyer evidence. On a budget, the Series 8. If you’re replacing an old Series 7, skip both new ones: their owners say they’re weaker.
One complaint turns up on every Braun we read, at every price. It isn’t about the shaver in the box. It’s about the last one.
Of the 145 critical reviews Amazon served across six current Brauns on 24 October 2026, 31 say an older Braun shaved better. Thirteen of those sit on one listing: the 2023 Series 7, bought by men replacing a Series 7 they’d kept for a decade.
Two Series 7s, and two Series 9 PRO+
Amazon sells two different shavers under each of those names. That’s the first thing to sort out.
The older Series 7, with 706 ratings on 24 October 2026, comes with a 4-in-1 SmartCare dock and a clip-on trimmer. The newer 7187ps has 304 ratings and adds a spare head. They cost $189.94 and $179.99.
The two Series 9 PRO+ listings both cost $349.94 that day. The older one has reviews going back to October 2023 and 1,893 ratings. The newer one has 499, and a reviewer identifies it as the 9697cc. Check the model number before you order.

Read across the rows and the families separate. The Series 9 Pro and older PRO+ draw durability complaints. The newer PRO+, the Series 8 and the 7187ps draw closeness complaints. The 2023 Series 7 draws comparisons with its predecessor.
These counts cover the pages Amazon served us, not every review on each listing. All six were sold by Amazon.com.
The one to buy, unless you came here hoping for permission to spend $90 more.
2,623 ratings at 4.4 stars on 24 October 2026, 85 per cent four or five, sold by Amazon.com. Amazon’s summary has buyers praising skin comfort, with closeness mixed. The 9465cc was $259.99 with its SmartCare cleaning dock.
The weak point is a plastic part. Nine of 25 critical reviews describe the shaver dying or its power button breaking, and a June 2026 three-star explains why: “These very expensive razors have a power button held in by 4 tiny plastic tabs.” Register the warranty the day it arrives.
Seller, 24 October 2026: Amazon.com. A 9477cc listing with a portable charging case was $299.97.
Owners who upgraded from a Series 7 are this shaver’s harshest critics. That tells you what it is: a better Series 9 Pro, not a different class of shave.
1,893 ratings at 4.4 stars on 24 October 2026, 86 per cent four or five, sold by Amazon.com. Closeness is tagged across 166 mentions in Amazon’s summary. This PRO+ was $349.94, $89.95 more than the 9465cc.
The main complaint: six of 24 critical reviews say an older Braun did as well. A June 2024 three-star: “my new Series 9 PRO+ (top-of-the-line) provides only a marginally better shave than my worn out Series 7 shaver” Nine more report it dying, several inside a year.
$229.97 on 24 October 2026, thirty dollars under the Series 9 Pro. One PRO+ owner’s two-star advice that September: “Buy an Series 8 and don't buy the hype”
973 ratings at 4.3 stars that day, 83 per cent four or five, sold by Amazon.com. Amazon’s summary leads with battery life. The 8567cc comes with the 5-in-1 SmartCare dock.
The catch is closeness and mess. Ten of 26 critical reviews say it doesn’t shave close, and three mention noise or loose stubble. Two say the foil wore out in under a year. Shave over the sink.
Same name and the same $349.94 as the 2023 PRO+ on 24 October 2026, but a different shaver. One reviewer identifies it as the 9697cc.
499 ratings at 4.4 stars that day, 86 per cent four or five, sold by Amazon.com. That’s about a quarter of the older PRO+’s sample, which is why it sits lower on the same average. This listing has the built-in ProTrimmer.
Thirteen of its 23 critical reviews say it pulls or misses hairs, the worst ratio of any Series 9 here. Four say Amazon wouldn’t take it back. Buy it only if you can test it the week it arrives.
If your old Series 7 just died, this is the replacement Amazon points you to, and the one its owners resent most.
706 ratings at 4.2 stars on 24 October 2026, the lowest average here, 77 per cent four or five. Sold by Amazon.com at $189.94. This Series 7 uses a trimmer attachment rather than a pop-up trimmer.
Half its critical reviews, 13 of 26, complain that it’s worse than an older Series 7, usually the 790cc. A May 2025 two-star: “I ordered this shaver because it was the suggested replacement for the discontinued 790cc.” That reviewer sent it back.
304 ratings, the fewest here, at 4.3 stars on 24 October 2026. It’s the cheapest Braun on the page at $179.99.
80 per cent four or five, sold by Amazon.com. Amazon’s summary praises its cleaning dock and comfort and calls closeness mixed. The 7187ps includes a spare shaver head and a travel case.
Ten of its 21 critical reviews complain that it won’t shave close, and four say the older Series 7 had more power. A July 2026 three-star: “the newer tech doesn’t have near the power to cut through more than a 2 day growth.” Shave daily with it, or buy a Series 9.
Seller, 24 October 2026: Amazon.com.
Which Braun should you buy?
The Series 9 Pro 9465cc. It has the most owners, the joint-best average and a lower price than either PRO+.
Spend the extra $90 on the 2023 PRO+ only if you shave a heavy beard daily and want the refinement. On a budget, the Series 8, with a sink under it.
Replacing a Series 7 you loved? The owners of both new Series 7s say they’re weaker. Move up to a Series 9 instead.
Before you buy: the return window
Nine of the 145 critical reviews say Amazon or the seller wouldn’t take the shaver back, and two more missed the window. Four of those nine are on the newer PRO+.
Use the shaver for a full week as soon as it arrives. If it pulls on day three, it will pull on day thirty.
Why they rank in this order
Average first among the Series 9s, then review count. Three shavers tie at 4.4 stars on 24 October 2026, so count decides: 2,623, 1,893 and 499 ratings.
We moved the Series 8 above the newer PRO+ on purpose. Its 973 ratings are nearly double the PRO+’s 499, a gap that outweighs a tenth of a star. The same logic puts the 2023 Series 7, with 706 ratings, above the 7187ps with 304.
Questions men actually ask
What is the difference between Braun Series 7, 8 and 9?
Mostly the head and the price. On 24 October 2026 the Series 9 Pro cost $259.99, the Series 8 $229.97 and the two Series 7s $179.99 and $189.94 on Amazon. Owners rate the Series 9 Pro highest, 4.4 stars on 2,623 ratings. The Series 8 draws closeness complaints, and the new Series 7s draw comparisons with older ones.
Is the Braun Series 9 PRO+ worth it over the Series 9 Pro?
Not on buyer evidence. Both read 4.4 stars on 24 October 2026, and the PRO+ cost $89.95 more. Six of 24 critical reviews on the 2023 PRO+ say an older Braun did as well, and nine report it failing. Buy the 9465cc unless you want the PRO+’s precision trimmer.
Does the Braun Series 9 power button break?
Some owners say it does. Four of the 25 critical reviews we read on the Series 9 Pro 9465cc listing on 24 October 2026 describe the power button breaking or falling off, and one explains it is held by four small plastic tabs. Register the warranty when the shaver arrives.
Is the new Braun Series 7 as good as the old one?
Its owners mostly say no. On 24 October 2026, 13 of 26 critical reviews on the 2023 Series 7 compared it unfavourably with an older Series 7, often the 790cc, and four of 21 on the newer 7187ps said the old one had more power. Neither new Series 7 rates above 4.3 stars.
Which Braun is best for a thick beard?
The Series 9 PRO+, among Brauns. On our thick-beard ranking, read 17 October 2026, it placed second behind Panasonic’s Arc5 on Amazon’s closeness evidence. The Series 8 placed last there: its own listing claims dense beards, but its shave-depth tag was mixed.
