Buy the Philips Norelco 2400 for most older men: 63,222 ratings at 4.3 stars, $34.96, and rotary heads buyers say rarely nick. Buy the Panasonic ARC5 if his skin reddens after shaving. The Remington F5 is the budget foil. Check the plug: three Norelcos here ship without a wall adapter.
A $35 Philips Norelco has 63,222 Amazon ratings. A $130 Norelco from the same shelf has 2,316, and its newest one-star comes from a man who has owned Norelco shavers since 1971. We read both on 3 October 2026.
Spending more doesn’t buy an older man a better shave by default.
This page ranks six electric razors on what buyers report, with the questions that change after sixty put first. Will it nick thin skin? Will it charge from a plug he already owns? And how long before it quits?
If you’re buying for a father or grandfather this year, the checklist matters as much as the order.
Why are electric razors recommended for people on blood thinners?
Because a nick bleeds longer. MedlinePlus, the National Library of Medicine’s consumer health site, gives this advice on its page for people taking warfarin, last reviewed 1 January 2025: “Use a soft toothbrush, waxed dental floss, and an electric razor.”
That is the whole of what we’ll say on the medical side. If he takes warfarin or another anticoagulant, ask his doctor or pharmacist. This page can tell you which electric razors buyers rate. It can’t tell you what is safe with a given medication.
What should you check before buying an electric razor for an older man?
Three things, in this order.
The plug. The Amazon listings for the Norelco 2400, 3900 and 7800, read 3 October 2026, each say the power adapter is not included. They charge from a USB cable. If there isn’t a USB phone charger by his sink, buy one with it.
Rotary or foil. Rotary shavers have three round heads that float; foil shavers have a flat head with a thin metal screen. The reviews below split by face, not by age. If he has used one type for years and liked it, stay with that type.
Lifespan. Amazon tags each listing’s review themes, and durability or reliability comes up on four of these six. On the Norelco 2400 it is negative across 772 mentions. An August 2026 four-star owner put it simply: “After a year the heads stopped turning.”
The six shavers side by side
Read from the Amazon listings on 3 October 2026. “Wall plug” records what each listing says; “not stated” means we couldn’t find it either way.
| Shaver | Type | Price | Ratings | 4–5 band | 1★ | Amazon’s durability tag | Wall plug |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Philips Norelco 2400 | Rotary | $34.96 | 63,222 | 82% | 6% | Negative (772) | Not included |
| Remington F5 | Foil | $47.59 | 28,987 | 82% | 6% | Mixed (699) | Not stated |
| Panasonic ARC5 | Foil | $179.99 | 15,758 | 83% | 6% | None | 100–240V charger described |
| Braun Series 5 5118s | Foil | $69.99 | 12,097 | 80% | 6% | Negative (151) | Not stated |
| Philips Norelco 3900 | Rotary | $69.96 | 5,940 | 84% | 7% | None | Not included |
| Philips Norelco 7800 | Rotary | $129.96 | 2,316 | 85% | 6% | Reliability: mixed (157) | Not included |
The four-to-five band runs from 80 to 85 per cent across all six. That is a narrow spread. It is why the size of each record decides most of the order, and why the details in the cards matter more than the stars.
