Braun Series 9 Pro vs Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra: Which $250 Shaver Should You Buy?

Including which “Series 9” and which “9000” you’re actually looking at, what each costs to keep running for three years, and the complaint each one’s buyers raise.
Updated: 4 October 2026 · Listings inspected 3 October 2026
Two plain unbranded black electric shavers standing upright on a dark slate slab, one with a flat foil head and one with three round rotary heads, beside a stone sink in side window light.
Short answer

Buy the Braun Series 9 Pro 9465cc if you want the bigger buyer record: 2,616 ratings to the Norelco’s 757, both at 4.4 stars. Buy the Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra if you’ll keep it for years: its heads cost about $30 a year against $53, and its warranty runs longer. Skip the $400-plus bundles.

The two shavers cost almost the same. On 3 October 2026 the Braun Series 9 Pro 9465cc was $259.99 on Amazon and the Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra was $244.79. Both held 4.4 stars.

So the sticker won’t settle it. Three other numbers will: how many people have bought each one, what each costs to keep running, and how long each brand will stand behind it.

There is also a design choice underneath the brand choice. Braun makes foil shavers: a flat head with thin perforated metal over blades that move side to side. Philips makes rotary shavers, with three round heads that spin. The reviews split along that line more than along any other.

Which “Series 9” and which “9000” are you looking at?

Neither name means one product. Both brands sell the same core shaver in several kits, and the kits are priced far apart. These are the listings Amazon returned for each name on 3 October 2026.

ListingPriceRatings

Braun Series 9 PRO+ 9660cc, 6-in-1 SmartCare$349.99482
Braun Series 9 PRO, 6-in-1 SmartCare$409.991.2K

Philips Norelco i9000$149.96538
Philips S9000 Prestige with Qi charging$399.99566

We compared the two listings with the most ratings at a matching price. The pricier kits add cases and stations, not a different cutting system that buyers describe, and none of them has a bigger buyer record. The cheaper i9000 is a lower model with its own listing.

The buyer record, side by side

Every figure below was read from the Amazon listings on 3 October 2026.

ShaverTypePriceRatings5★4★3★2★1★4–5 bandSeller
Braun Series 9 Pro 9465ccFoil$259.992,61673%12%5%3%7%85%Amazon.com
Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige UltraRotary$244.7975771%13%7%3%6%84%Amazon.com

One point of four-to-five band separates them. The Braun has three and a half times as many ratings, which is why it ranks first. Neither is a shaver its buyers regret in large numbers.

What Amazon’s review summary flags on each

Amazon tags the themes it finds in each listing’s reviews and labels each one positive, mixed or negative. These are Amazon’s counts, read 3 October 2026, not ours.

On the Braun, quality (354 mentions) and skin comfort (105) come back positive. Shaving closeness (172) and value for money (203) come back mixed.

On the Norelco, performance (199) and shave depth (68) come back positive. Skin irritation (46), battery life (46) and value for money (70) come back mixed.

Read that as each design’s weak spot showing through. Foil shavers are bought for closeness, and closeness is where the Braun’s buyers disagree. Rotary shavers are bought for comfort, and comfort is where the Norelco’s buyers disagree.

What each costs to run for three years

Both need new heads. Braun’s own replacement-head page, read 3 October 2026, says “we recommend replacing the Series 9 Pro head every 18 months” and lists the genuine 94M head at $79.99. Philips’ SH91 page says to replace heads every 24 months and names the SH91/52 as fitting the i9000 Prestige series. Amazon had the SH91/52 at $59.90.

That is roughly $85 in the Norelco’s favour over three years. Two things are left out. Both kits use cleaning fluid in their stations, which we didn’t price. And we haven’t judged the look-alike heads selling for $28 to $34 beside Braun’s.

One more detail from the head listings. On 3 October 2026 a third party held the buy box on both genuine parts: “A 2 Z STORE” for the Braun 94M and “All About Office” for the Philips SH91/52. The SH91/52 listing’s title also never mentions the i9000. Philips’ own page is the one that confirms the fit.

Which warranty is longer?

Philips’ page for the i9000 Prestige Ultra, read 3 October 2026, states a two-year warranty plus five more years if you register on Philips.com within 90 days. That is seven years in total.

Braun’s warranty page says registering through BraunCare+ within 90 days extends coverage “for up to 5 years from the date of purchase” on qualifying products bought after 15 February 2026. Five years, then.

Neither extension happens on its own. Register the week it arrives, and keep the order email.

Bigger buyer record

For the man who wants the safer bet on the evidence: the same rating as the Norelco, three and a half times the buyers, and a foil head.

2,616 ratings at 4.4 stars on 3 October 2026, with 85 per cent in the four-to-five band. The 9465cc kit was $259.99 that day, sold and shipped by Amazon.com, with Braun’s cleaning and charging station in the box. A January 2026 four-star, from a man moving up from a Series 5, found it a little closer but said it “still doesn’t do a great job around the upper neck area”.

The catch is upkeep. Braun wants a new $79.99 head every 18 months, the steepest running cost on this page. One September 2022 buyer reported the change-foil light coming on within three weeks, and later called it the loudest shaver he had owned.

Against the Norelco it costs $15 more today and about $70 more in heads over three years. What that buys is the larger, steadier record.

The better buy over five years, and the one its maker will stand behind longest, if you can live with a smaller buyer record.

757 ratings at 4.4 stars on 3 October 2026, with 84 per cent in the four-to-five band. The Prestige Ultra in dark slate was $244.79, sold and shipped by Amazon.com. A June 2026 four-star, from a lifelong foil user who had owned a Braun Series 7 and a Panasonic Arc 5, wrote that “this shaver outperformed both on my face!”

The catch is time. A three-star from October 2025, written by a man in his mid-sixties, found the shave “can be quite good but will take longer than a traditional blade and foam”, then went back over his jaw with an old foil shaver. Amazon tags skin irritation as mixed on this listing, across 46 mentions.

Heads run about $30 a year against the Braun’s $53. There is no wall plug in the box, only a USB cable.

Foil or rotary: which suits your face?

The reviews don’t agree, and they disagree by face. The Braun four-star above found foil closer everywhere except the upper neck. The Norelco three-star found the opposite on his jaw: his old foil shaver cut shorter there. The Norelco four-star retired two foil shavers after one shave.

So use your own history. If you’ve used one type for years and liked it, nothing in either listing gives you a reason to switch. If you’re new to both, the Braun has the longer record and the Norelco costs less to keep.

How we compared them

Prices, ratings, star distributions and sellers come from each Amazon listing, read in a signed-in session on 3 October 2026. The Associates SiteStripe bar showed both shavers in Beauty & Grooming at the same rate, so commission played no part in the order. Head intervals, head part numbers and warranty terms come from Braun’s and Philips’ own pages, read the same day.

One limit is worth stating plainly. On 26 September 2026 Amazon’s one-, two- and three-star review filters worked in a signed-in session. On 3 October 2026 they did not: every filter returned the same eight to thirteen reviews, mostly five-star.

So this page carries no complaint counts of our own. The quotes come from the reviews Amazon did serve, and the theme tags are Amazon’s.
